St. Peter's Lutheran Church

At St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the center of our life together is Jesus Christ and the gifts He gives through His Word and Sacraments. Located in Shaker Heights, Ohio, St. Peter’s is a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod serving people and families throughout the eastern Cleveland area.

Here you will encounter a church shaped by the historic Christian faith and the Lutheran confession of that faith. Scripture is proclaimed as God’s true and trustworthy Word, Christ crucified and risen is at the heart of our preaching, and worship is ordered around receiving what God graciously gives His people. We come together not because we have mastered the Christian life, but because we continually need the forgiveness, mercy, wisdom, and hope that are ours in Christ.

Our congregation welcomes people from many different backgrounds and stages of life. Some have been Lutheran for decades. Others may be visiting a Lutheran church for the first time, returning to worship after many years, or simply asking serious questions about Christianity. Wherever you are coming from, you are invited to listen, learn, ask questions, and become acquainted with the life and teaching of St. Peter’s.

Sunday mornings begin with our Worship Service at 9:30 a.m. At 11:15 a.m., adults gather for Bible Study while children and youth continue learning God’s Word in Sunday School. These opportunities reflect an important part of our life together: Christians never outgrow the need to hear and study Scripture. Faith is strengthened as God’s people continue to receive His Word, learn the Christian doctrine, pray together, and encourage one another.

St. Peter’s is located at 18000 Van Aken Blvd in Shaker Heights and is well situated to serve neighbors from Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Beachwood, South Euclid, Warrensville Heights, and other communities throughout Greater Cleveland. Our desire is not merely to maintain a church building or preserve a tradition, but to confess Christ faithfully in the place where God has put us.

If you are searching for a Lutheran church in Shaker Heights, an LCMS congregation near Cleveland Heights or Beachwood, or a church where historic worship and biblical teaching remain central, we invite you to visit St. Peter’s. Come hear the Scriptures, learn more about the Lutheran faith, and receive the good news that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners.

confessing Jesus

Worship as Christians have for 2,000 years

biblical

We believe, teach and confess that all Scripture is given by the inspiration of God the Holy Spirit and that God is therefore the true Author of every word of Scripture.

historical

Enjoy and embrace the historic Divine Service of the church according to the liturgical calendar as celebrated by millions of Christians for centuries.

confessional

The Lutheran Confessional writings found in the Book of Concord with the Unaltered Augsburg Confession are believed and taught daily to St. Peter's families.

sacramental

One foot in heaven with the other here on earth. What brings heaven to our worship is the One who is present in worship that we experience heaven on earth.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

At St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, we treasure the Lutheran Confessions because they give a clear and faithful summary of the teaching of Holy Scripture. They are not an authority above the Bible; rather, they bear witness to the biblical faith confessed by the Church. In the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, and in the confessional writings collected in the Book of Concord, we confess the Triune God, the saving work of Jesus Christ, the forgiveness of sins, Holy Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and justification by grace through faith. In this way, our confession is rooted not in novelty, but in the historic Christian faith handed down through the generations.

That same continuity is visible in the worship life of St. Peter’s. Historic Lutheran liturgy gives the congregation a pattern of worship shaped by Scripture, prayer, creed, hymnody, preaching, and the Sacraments. Its purpose is not to place the worshiper at the center, but to direct attention to Christ and the gifts He gives His people. Through the readings of Holy Scripture, the preaching of the Gospel, the confession of the faith, and the hymns of the Church, we are continually drawn back to the promises of God.

For us, historic worship is not an exercise in preserving the past for its own sake. It is a living expression of the Church’s faith and a way of receiving and confessing the Gospel in every generation. St. Peter’s is grateful to stand within this rich Lutheran heritage and to share its biblical teaching, reverent worship, and Christ-centered hope with our neighbors in Shaker Heights and throughout Greater Cleveland.

Whether you are already familiar with Lutheran worship or encountering it for the first time, we invite you to come and experience a service rooted in Scripture and centered on Jesus Christ. Here, the Church gathers not around trends or personalities, but around the enduring gifts of God.
